The Kick (Pencil)
The artist used this detailed pencil drawing as the underdrawing for his painting, The Kick. The drawing was done directly on the primed panel for the painting. A series of transparent oil glazes allowed some of the original drawing to show through. Other areas were painted with opaque oils, so the original pencil drawing was "lost" in the painting process. A limited print edition of the drawing was published prior to the artist's application of paints.
